Recording when objects leave the buildings you are responsible for and pass out of your direct care.
This is a primary procedure. Accredited UK museums must meet the Spectrum standard set out below. The suggested procedure is one way to achieve the standard, but it is just a suggestion.
Resource Use this procedure to recording when objects leave your museum for whatever reason. By ‘museum’ we include any off-site stores that are under your control. This can be as simple as an enquirer collecting an object they left for identification, in which case you might just need a further signature on the relevant object entry form to confirm safe handover.
Resource This is the Spectrum standard for Object exit. It includes policy questions and sets out the minimum requirements you should aim to meet however you put this procedure into practice.
Resource This suggested procedure shows how you might meet the Spectrum standard for Object exit. It is presented in two formats: text and workflow diagram. They are meant to be starting points for you to adapt to the needs of your own museum.
