Public access support

Axiell Collections comes with several options for publishing your collections online. Axiell Internet Server is an optional add-on to Axiell Collections. It provides a simple, flexible web application which can easily be adapted to suit the design requirements of any organisation, offering an easy way to get your collections on-line.

Key features include support for user generated content such as comments and tagging, configurable search and display options, three levels of search tool, email/data download function, multi-lingual interface.

If your organisation wants to take a more tailored approach, Axiell Collections also comes with an Open API. The open API is a command library that can be used to interact with Axiell Collections or a 3rd party application such as a DAM/MAM/PAM. Using this API you can easily build your own applications through one of the three available methods: Url requests, Data Windows dll or jQuery plugin.

Finally, Open Archive Initiative (OAI) harvesting is supported (e.g. for Europeana, APEx), as is an EAD export for services like ArchivesHub.

Backup support

Axiell Collections is designed to run in ‘real-time’. System backup is achieved using standard Microsoft techniques depending on the platform in use, including transaction logging for recovery purposes. Axiell Collections works with the minimum of disruption to availability. This can be enhanced by taking advantage of the features offered by Microsoft SQL Server database to give a high level of resilience to the system, including database mirroring, clustering or replication.

The recovery facility is available in Microsoft SQL Server management studio. For Axiell-hosted customers, daily backups are automatically taken. Additionally, there are back-up and logging features built into the software. Every field within a record can maintain an audit trail of all previous contents. For each edit that is made, the user name, date and time and previous content are recorded.

Using either the standard system reporting tools, or Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, reports about the database and its users can be generated. Axiell support will assist as far as possible, with the possibility of temporarily hosting a copy of the customer’s application if needed.

Data auditing and cleaning

The full-featured search options in Axiell Collection allow auditing based on any field (or combination of fields) in the system. Searches can be run manually or on a regular schedule. To support clean data, the Thesaurus validates entries in controlled-vocabulary fields against standards in use, ensuring correct data entry.

Other field types (e.g. date) validate and control data entry, as well. The global search/update functionality allows data cleanup in bulk on any field. A built-in change-location tool allows for bulk relocation of items and logs previous locations. For especially involved data cleanup tasks, records can also be updated via an import.
