Volunteering in independent museums: a research study

Volunteers are an essential workforce for many museums. The Accreditation Standard expects museums to have an appropriate workforce with effective employment procedures and roles in place to meet its responsibilities. Museums need to plan their workforce requirements and understand the potential for volunteer development.

This study from the Association of Independent Museums discusses the broader strategic issues that will influence volunteering in independent museums in forthcoming years. Although written in 2009, it contains information and insight relevant to museums in 2016.
