UNESCO 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property

This legislation from United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a multilateral international agreement dedicated to fighting the illicit trafficking of cultural property.

It refers to the acquisition of cultural property and requires that new acquisitions will have been and are acquired honestly, that museums will not trade in illicitly acquired objects, and that museums (and other cultural organisations) will work together to combat the illicit trafficking of cultural property.
