Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act 2007

Part 6 of the Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act 2007 provides protection for objects brought to the UK for public display in a temporary exhibition at a museum or gallery, subject to certain conditions contained in the Act and the Protection of Cultural Objects on Loan (Publication and Provision of Information) Regulations 2008.

Where these conditions for protection are met, the protected object may not be seized or forfeited under or by virtue of any order of the court except where the court is required to make that order under a provision giving effect to an EU law obligation or any international treaty. Any museum or gallery seeking protection from seizure must first be approved by the Secretary of State who will require it to demonstrate that its procedures for due diligence are robust and comply with the requirements set out in the regulations.
