Damage/loss reference number

Definition

The unique number assigned to the record of the damage to, or loss of, an object or group of objects. The number should also refer to a file containing all written documentation about the damage or loss.

How to record

May include: a prefix to distinguish it from other reference numbers; the year; and a running number.

Examples

Loss1993.01; Damage2017.10

Use

The same Damage/loss reference number can be used for one or more objects acquired together, but an object can only have one Damage/loss reference number.
