Case study: an energy audit for the Guildhall Museum, Rochester

This case study by South East Museum Development Programme is relevant to the Accreditation Standard 1.10 Environmental sustainability: ‘The museum must be environmentally conscious. Its approach to minimising waste and reducing its effect on the environment is a matter for the governing body. The museum must be guided by a policy statement about its approach to environmental sustainability, and that policy statement must be appropriate to its statement of purpose’.

Guildhall Museum in Rochester undertook their Energy, Waste & Water Efficiency Audit project in December 2012, during which they implemented a range of initiatives to monitor and reduce utility consumption and spend, following an Environmental Audit by the Sustainable Business Partnership CIC.

The project resulted in reduced spending on water and electricity and a reduction in landfill waste. The cost of the audit and implementation funding totaled £1,500.
