Archaeology collection inventory plan, Bristol City Museum

Bristol’s Museums, Galleries and Archives archaeology collections contains over 500,000 objects. The collections contains Pre-Historic, Roman, Medieval, Post-Medieval and all embracing Antiquarian collections.

The archaeology collection is a large collection with complicated documentation and collections management requirements. Records exist in either manual or computerised format for most of the collections. However, for many objects the information is out-of-date or difficult to access. As such there is no accurate up-to-date listing in an indexed and easily accessible format available for the complete collection. The aim of this project was to produce a record for objects or groups of objects cared for by the Archaeology Department.

This resource includes an introduction to the project and an outline of the procedure.
