Description
Because the museums governance landscape is changing so rapidly, this title is especially relevant as many museums that were previously in local authority ownership become charitable organisations. This process is being highlighted as the museums community faces unprecedented cuts with a reallocation of funding from central government.
Instead of a choice between closure and disposal of collections or a reduction of service and staff, with a possible mothballing of collections, there is strong evidence of a third way forward by changing governance structure and opening up new ways of funding services. This title reviews governance and charity law and draws on the experience of devolved UK museums.
