Guide to data protection for records managers and archivists

Records managers and archivists play a valuable role in ensuring that historical records are effectively managed and preserved for present and future generations. While retaining and making available such records is of great importance, it is also important to ensure that proper protection is given to individuals’ rights to privacy with respect to the processing of their personal information.

This guide was produced by the National Archives to provide general advice for records managers and archivists on the implications of compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
