SPECTRUM Advice: Developing a Documentation Procedural Manual

Although not viewed as a ‘standard’ the Procedural Manual is a widely recognised device for expressing and communicating a museum’s policy and practice regarding the organisation of its collections information management policy and practice. It should include reference to the standards the museum uses for collecting information about museum objects.

This fact sheet by Collections Trust outlines the purpose, content and maintenance of a Documentation Procedural Manual and is directly related to the Accreditation Standard requirement 2.7, which requires that a procedural manual is a requirement of the UK Museum Accreditation Scheme.

The resource describes how to develop and maintain a procedural manual, and what it might contain.
