Standards and joint procedures are key elements towards achieving more sustainable and customer friendly collection management. In recent years, standards have gained a bigger role within museum collection management and cataloguing.
The SPECTRUM standard is used in thousands of museums worldwide and has also become an important tool for Nordic museums. The whole standard, or parts of it, has been localized for Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian museums during the years 2014-2016. The SPECTRUM-conference will be held 29-30 May 2017 and will concentrate on the standard and its use in Finland, Sweden, Norway and the United Kingdom.
During the conference, participants will learn about SPECTRUM, its localizations and how to use it in everyday museum work. Presentations will explore the different approaches to the standard and the practical benefits it provides to museums. Workshops will enable participants to see the collection management procedures and cataloguing information in practice.
The conference is a unique opportunity to learn about collection management in museums. It is suitable for anyone who works in museums or with collection management procedures such as cataloguing, loans, conservation, acquisitions, deaccessions and transportation. The conference is targeted at curators, museum assistants, conservators, intendants, registrators, digitizers, cataloguers and anyone working in collection management.
