Collections rationalisation and review enables a museum to improve its understanding of a collection so that the collection can be used more effectively. This session will explore the benefits of collection reviews and rationalisation, to both the museum and visitors. The session will also introduce different methodologies and frameworks, and approaches to planning a collections review. We will also look at the ethical and legal considerations of deaccession and disposal, as a potential outcome of rationalisation.
Delegates will also hear from the former Peer Development Group in Collections Review and Rationalisation who have produced a practical toolkit for use by museums interested in delivering a rationalisation project.
There will also be an opportunity for attendees to preview the new SPECTRUM 5.0 Collections Review procedure.
